2. Where are you located?
Student Health Services is conveniently located behind the Memorial Union in McCannel Hall. McCannel Hall is between Abbott Hall and O'Kelly Hall on Second Avenue North, south of the Memorial Union.
THe Student Health Promotion office is located on the main floor of the Memorial Union, under the "Healthier U" sign.

3. What are your hours?
Student Health Services is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will save money if you use Student Health Services for your health care needs during regular hours. Office calls are free for all students who pay student fees.
If you need care after hours, non-emergency services are available at Altru Urgent Care, which is located next to the emergency room at Altru Hospital on South Columbia Road. For information call 780-5968.
In the case of an emergency, call "911" or go to the emergency room at Altru Hospital. These services are expensive and should be used only in a true emergency. You and your insurance provider are responsible for the costs of emergency and non-emergency after hours care.

4. Do I need to make an appointment to be seen at Student Health Services?
We encourage you to make an appointment to ensure as little waiting as possible. We are able to see most students within 24 hours, although you may have to schedule further in advance for women's health exams, flight physicals and other specialized services. We do our best to work in students who have an urgent medical situation, but it is best to call ahead to minimize delays. 5. How much does it cost to be seen at Student Health Services?
Office calls are free to students who have paid their student fees. You don't need cash to come to Student Health. Your student fees cover all your office visits throughout the semester. Additional charges will be made for medications, lab work, x-rays, and special examinations, injections and procedures, but the cost is generally substantially less than you would pay elsewhere. If you have health insurance, it usually covers some of these charges.

6. How do I pay for services at Student Health Services?
All charges can be billed to your University account. If you have insurance, we will assist you in obtaining reimbursement from your insurance provider.
The Pharmacy offers several options for payment including cash payments, checks, use of passport cards, credit cards or billing to your University account. The Pharmacy participates in many insurance plans which will be billed on-line. If the pharmacy does not participate in your plan, you will be provided with a statement that you can submit to your insurance company for the reimbursement.

7. Can my spouse and children be treated at Student Health Services?
Spouses of enrolled students may use Student Health Services for a per-semester fee.

8. What is the difference between Student Health Services and the University Health Center?
Student Health Services is the officially designated provider of health services for UND students. Students pay no fee for office calls at Student Health Services. We are conveniently located behind the Memorial Union.

9. What types of health problems can be treated at Student Health Services?
We treat all general medical conditions, just like any other medical clinic. We specialize in caring for college students. If you need specialized care, we will make a referral to a community provider.

10. Is Student Health Services a real clinic?
Yes, Student Health Services is a full service medical clinic, with a pharmacy, lab, and radiology department. You can obtain treatment for most medical conditional right here on campus. Students who need specialized care will be referred to community providers.

11. Do you have "real doctors" and nurse practitioners?
Yes, Student Health Services has licensed physicians, family nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

12. Can I choose which provider I wish to see?
Yes, many of our patients have a provider they prefer for a variety of reasons. Some women may prefer to see a female provider and some men may prefer to see a male. Some students may wish to be seen by a physician and others prefer our family nurse practitioners. The choice is yours!

13. Can I use the Student Health pharmacy, lab, and x-ray, even if I did not see your providers and I have a prescription or doctor's order from an outside provider/clinic?
Yes, we will work with your provider to help provide you with convenient on-campus services and they may be less expensive.

14. I need a shot to update my immunizations. Can you give them to me?
Yes! Many students come to Student Health Services for shots including MMR's(measles, mumps, and rubella), tetanus, Hepatitis B, meningitis, travel shots, and others.

15. Do you provide women's healthcare services?
Yes, female nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians provide a variety of women's health care services including pap smears, breast exams, treatment for yeast infections, screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and a variety of other personalized health and wellness services.

16. Do you offer men's health care?
Yes, we offer a variety of men's health care services including physicals, testicular and prostate exams, screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, advice on body building drugs, and a variety of other personalized health and wellness services.

17. Can I be tested for STD's (Sexually Transmitted Disease and Infections)?
Yes, we offer testing for a variety of sexually transmitted diseases and infections, including free and confidential HIV screening.

18. Do you offer birth control services?
Yes, We provide a full array of contraceptive options and we will help you explore what birth control method will best meet your needs. Free condoms are available in the Pharmacy in the exam rooms, and at the Student Health Promotion Office in the Memorial Union.

19. Do I have to have health insurance to be seen at Student Health Services?
No, many students who use our services do not have health insurance, however health insurance coverage can help protect you against medical bills in the event of a serious illness. Most students with medical insurance are covered through their parent's medical coverage or a student policy. Student Health Services will submit charges to your insurance provider or help you submit charges on your own, depending on your provider, to minimize your out of pocket costs.
Students also have the option of subscribing to the Student Assurance Health Insurance Policy endorsed by the University. This insurance covers most basic health care charges, plus emergency care. For additional information about Student Assurance Health Insurance, pick up a brochure at Student Health Services, call 775.3131 (Grand Forks) or 1-800-732-4336(outside the Grand Forks area), or check the Vaaler Insurance web site at www.vaaler.com.

20. Can I count on my health information remaining private?
Yes! All information in your record is confidential. Access to information contained in your file is limited to you (the patient) and Student Health Services personnel, unless you give written permission to release it, except by court order. All employees sign a confidentiality pledge.
